Hi, I'm Maria
I'm raising two kids across two languages, in a house where neither parent grew up fully fluent in the one we're trying to pass on. Fluent Little Ones is where I write down what's actually worked, what hasn't, and what the research says when I bother to check it properly.
How This Started
I didn't start this blog because I'm an expert — I started it because I spent a long stretch of my daughter's early years reading conflicting, often unrealistic advice about bilingual parenting, and wished someone would just describe what a normal, imperfect week actually looked like. So I started writing that down, first for myself, then for anyone else who might find it useful.
What This Blog Is (and Isn't)
Fluent Little Ones covers practical bilingual parenting strategies: schedules, systems like OPOL and Minority Language at Home, what to do when a child refuses the minority language, and the honest mistakes that quietly undo progress. It's written from lived experience and careful reading of available research, not from a clinical or academic background.
It is not a substitute for professional advice. When a post touches on speech development or anything that could affect your child's health, I try to say clearly where the evidence stops and where a pediatrician or speech-language pathologist should take over. See our Disclaimer for more on this.
